🌿 MY APPROACH

My approach is integrative and relational, drawing on Person-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural, Psychodynamic, Attachment, and systemic thinking.   I am also a fully qualified trauma professional and can work with trauma in the context of Northern Ireland.

Therapy is a collaborative and responsive process, shaped by each person’s unique experience.  A key aspect of my work is an understanding of experience as embodied, relational, and contextual — meaning emotional distress is not seen in isolation, but in connection with body, relationships, history, and environment.

  • Alongside talking therapy, I may draw on grounding, breathing techniques, progressive muscle relaxation, meditation, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), mindfulness-based practices, Solution Focused Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Forward-Facing Therapy, and approaches informed by Internal Family Systems and attachment theory, including attention to meaning, values, and spiritual dimensions of experience where relevant.
  • A central aspect of my practice is ecological attunement and nature based therapy — an awareness of the interconnected nature of experience through the use of my Naturic Framework.

Face-to-face sessions are available in River House, Coleraine which offers counselling rooms alongside the beautiful setting of the River Bann with its extensive walks and breathtaking views.

Experiential Walking Work

Alongside indoor sessions, I may where appropriate offer structured experiential work in natural environments such as beach or river walks.

These sessions are not standalone walk-and-talk therapy, but form part of a planned and clinically structured therapeutic process.

Any work in external settings is considered in advance, based on therapeutic suitability, risk assessment, and mutual agreement. Indoor sessions remain the primary foundation of the work.

Client Testimonials

"As a family, we were very worried about changes in our teenage daughter so we all took part in the therapy.  We all learned things about ourselves and each other which has made us work together more as a unit and she is now a happy, successful teen".

"When I first came to counselling I was extremely stressed with everything in life. Janice helped me to get to a point  where I can now relax and enjoy my life".

"I had lost all sight of myself after a relationship breakdown and family issues.  Being able to see new pathways opened doors I never thought possible".

"Counselling has helped me to respect myself and set boundaries in my relationships.  I seemed to attract people who hurt me. I am now happier and more able to care for myself and will never allow that to happen again".
